Windows Phone 7 was thought to be CDMA-only until some time in 2011, but it looks like Verizon's excitement about the platform may lead to that date being pushed up just a little bit. The official Windows Phone Twitter account (@WindowsPhone) recently let one user know that Verizon stores will start receiving at least one Windows Phone 7 device "this holiday season" with more arriving "in early 2011," when we originally expected the first devices to land. A more recent tweet from the @WindowsPhone account, though, says that "Verizon is a valued partner and we look forward to seeing Windows Phone 7 devices in their stores in 2011." The original tweet is still up, so our optimism hasn't completely disappeared.
It seems like there's a decent demand for Windows Phone 7 devices on CDMA networks, and considering that Verizon and Sprint are the No. 1 and 3 carriers in the nation, I'm sure that Microsoft is eager to get some WP7 on those networks, too. What has me concerned is that we're pretty much already into "the holiday season," and there hasn't been a peep about any WP7 goodness arriving in Verizon stores. For now, I'll stay positive and hope that there's a new HTC Trophy in my stocking this year.
