Motorola may not be known as the friendliest company when it comes to Android hacking and modding, but at least they try to keep us up to date on their Android update plans.  The company has once again refreshed its Android Software Update timeline, and while there's nothing radically new to be found, we are getting closer to a solid release date for some upgrades.  Recently the CLIQ's Android 2.1 leaked out on Motorola's site for a short period of time, but it's since been pulled and is in private beta testing with a full release (hopefully) coming soon.  Both the CLIQ XT and the BACKFLIP are having their versions of Eclair tested as we speak, with a full roll out expected in Q4 of this year.  The DEVOUR, as we all know, has been relegated to 1.6, and both the DROID and DROID X are enjoying a big bowl of Froyo right now.

It's pretty disappointing that a device like the BACKFLIP, which went on sale almost eight months ago, is still stuck on Android 1.5 while we're waiting for Android 2.3/2.5, but it could be worse!  BACKFLIPs in every other part of the world, like Canada, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, won't be receiving any update at all.  So hold tight, CLIQ, CLIQ XT, and BACKFLIP users!  You'll be enjoying Android 2.1 soon enough.  You just may want to cover your ears while we all talk about the impending Gingerbread update.
