With the impending launch of Motorola's DROID 2 Global on Verizon, many have wondered if the CDMA-only DROID 2 would be phased out in favor of its globetrotting sucessor.  It's looking more and more likely that that will be the case, as the DROID 2 has been recalled from Walmart.  Brightstar, Walmart's distributor, wants all of the devices back in its warehouses by October 26th, leading many to believe that we may see the DROID 2 Global launch shortly thereafter.

It's definitely strange that the DROID 2 has been removed from Walmart's shelves, but it definitely looks like Motorola and Verizon and planning to replace that device with the new DROID 2 Global.  I'm surprised that Moto and VZW would launch a device in August and then wipe it out a few months later, though.  Perhaps they could keep both around and offer the DROID 2 as a cheaper alternative for users that don't need world capabilities?  On the other hand, two devices that are so similar could end up confusing potential customers.  It's tough to say exactly what's going to happen right now, but if you were planning on picking up a DROID 2 in the near future, it may be better to hold off for a few more weeks.
