We learned back in August that the Dell Streak would be skipping Android 2.1 and move straight to Froyo when it gets updated, but there was no news on just when that upgrade would arrive. Dell has chimed in to tell us more about the Streak's update and, while there's still no hard date available, things are looking good for Streak owners. On Dell's forums, the company has said that Android 2.2 will be coming to the Streak "much sooner" than December 31st.
It's pretty disappointing that the Dell Streak launched with Android 1.6, but the jump from Donut to Froyo could make the Streak into a completely new device. Some of you may not be a fan of the custom UI that Dell has put on the tablet, but I bet that the Streak will be worth a second look once it's loaded up with Android 2.2 and all of the new features and enhancements present in that version of the OS. Who knows, it may even give the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab a run for its money. Stay tuned!
