As Android continues its explosive growth in the market, the number of questions surrounding the platform surround exponentially.  Google VP of Engineering and Android founder Andy Rubin recently sat down to answer some of those questions, and his answers are pretty interesting.  The interview covered a wide range of topics, including openness, the various versions of Android, the carriers, Gingerbread, and competitors.  Some of the highlights include:

• Rubin believes that manufacturers releasing outdated versions of Android will soon learn what consumers want and change up their strategies accordingly.

• Google doesn't want to force carriers or OEMs to adhere to certain standards when creating or launching an Android phone.

• Gingerbread will focus on "more forms of communication."  Rubin also touched on gaming, saying that it's not being given the proper attention it deserves.

• Rubin thinks that, while Windows Phone 7 looks interesting, we don't need another new platform

While the interview didn't really bring much new information to the table, it's always great to hear what someone from Google has to say about Android and its idiosyncrasies. The fact that Rubin focused on gaming when discussing Gingerbread makes me hopeful that they'll be pushing for more of a focus on it in the future (although Android gaming has been doing well as of late).  Perhaps that's more fuel for the Sony Ericsson-made PSP Android phone?
