Release date rumors of anticipated Android updates are a dime a dozen lately, and the DROID X's Froyo update is no exception. Today, however, we can tell you that it finally looks like Android 2.2 will be hitting DROID Xs very soon. Verizon has updated their support page for the device, which now features a PDF explaining the benefits of upgrading to Froyo. Included in the update are the usual Android 2.2 enhancements as well as some other welcome improvements, like better Visual Voicemail and 3G Mobile Hotspot apps. There's still no word on exactly when Android 2.2 will begin rolling out to DROID Xs, but considering Verizon has basically told us that the update is finally ready for primetime, I'd imagine we'll see it in the next couple of days.
Now that the DROID X is finally receiving Android 2.2, that means that all of Verizon's Android handsets, save for the Fascinate, are running the latest version of their OS. Hopefully the Fascinate will see its own Froyo update soon, too, so that all of VZW's high-end Android phones would be up to date. In the mean time, you can officially begin mashing your Check for Updates button, DROID X owners. If you manage to snag the update, come back and let us know, ok?
UPDATE: The folks over at Droid Life have received a screenshot alleging that the DROID X's Android 2.2 update will begin to roll out tomorrow at 12 PM EST. Users will have the option to check System Update and initiate the download manually. Normally I'd say that this kind of photo is pretty easy to fake (and it still is), but with all of the other information we've got, I'd guess that this is all legit. You've got less than 24 hours of waiting left, DX owners!
UPDATE #2: And just like that, everything is confirmed. Verizon has announced via their Twitter account that the DROID X's Android 2.2 roll out will begin Wednesday (aka tomorrow) at noon. Users can hit System Update to initiate the download without having to wait around for the OTA. Enjoy, DROID X owners!
