Itching to know when your Motorola Android device will get updated to a newer version of the OS? Moto has just updated its "Android Software Upgrade" page with the latest info on their products, and there is some good news and bad news to be found. The Backflip is still slated to receive Android 2.1 some time in Q3 2010 and the DROID X will get bumped up to Android 2.2 in late summer. Sure, we already knew about the DROID X's update, but it's still good to see that Moto is still on track. The bad news in all this? Both the CLIQ and CLIQ XT, originally slated to receive Android 2.1 in Q2, now have to wait until late Q3/early Q4 to get their updates. Even worse is that the possibility of Verizon's Devour getting an update looks pretty bleak, as Motorola now says that it will not have an upgrade to 2.1.
It's great that Motorola posts its update plans for all to see, and I wish more manufacturers would do something similar to help keep consumers in the loop. The downside to keeping us informed, though, is when we learn something like the fact that the Devour won't be getting an update to Android 2.1. It may not be the hottest selling Android device on Verizon, but the Devour always presented a decent, cheaper QWERTY Android option on Verizon. Heck, it's still for sale on Verizon's site right now! I feel for you, Devour owners. Maybe an upgrade to a DROID 2 or another Android phone is in your future?
