It's been a long time coming, mostly because of the delay, but the official Android 2.2 update for the original Motorola DROID has begun rolling out to users. There have been multiple reports across the web today from DROID owners who started receiving notification of the update early this morning, and so far it doesn't look like Verizon will be pulling the plug on the upgrade this time. Interestingly, the version of Froyo being sent out over the air is reportedly the same FRG01B build that we saw about a week ago.
There's no telling what was going on with the FRG01B update and why it was yanked from the airwaves last week, but apparently Verizon is confident in the build again. In the end, all that matters is that DROID owners are getting their delicious Froyo, and so far it looks like everything is running smoothly. The DROID may not have been the first handset on the market to get Android 2.2, but considering it's one of the most popular Android devices, it'll definitely help spread adoption of the new version of the OS. How many of you have gotten notification of the Froyo update on your DROID?
