It's been a long time coming, but Android Police is reporting that European HTC Hero owners are finally receiving the update to Android 2.1 over the air. The update is said to be coming in two parts: the first consisting of bug fixes and software updates while the second is the real meat of the upgrade, containing the Android 2.1 goodness. That the update is finally here is good news for Hero owners, but even better is that the upgrade does not wipe the user's data.
We heard at the beginning of the month that Taiwanese Hero owners were receiving the upgrade to Android 2.1 and we hoped that European owners would follow shortly. It may have taken a few weeks, but at least 2.1 is finally here, right? If you haven't had the OTA update pushed to you yet, you should hit Settings > About Phone > System Updates and see if that works for your device. So, HTC, about that Android 2.2 update...
