After AT&T's first Android device was the Motorola Backflip, I can't say this news surprises me. Android Central is reporting that AT&T will soon be releasing the Motorola Flipout, the square Android device running MOTOBLUR. This version of the Flipout is said to have Android 2.1 beneath a BLUR skin with the same enhancements we saw rumored for the Moto Charm. It also reportedly has Yahoo! set as the default search engine, just like on the Backflip. Full specs for the Flipout can be read here.
With the exception of the upcoming Samsung Captivate, AT&T has exactly zero high-end Android devices (although you can order the Nexus One from Google). While it's great to see these mainstream, consumer-friendly Android phones, I would like to see something like the DROID X or EVO head to AT&T as well. Not everyone wants an iPhone or BlackBerry Bold! Still, I'm sure the interesting design, together with the full QWERTY keyboard, will help sell Flipouts.
