Everyone is busy wondering when Android 2.2 will hit their particular device, but if a recent rumor is true, both the original DROID and upcoming DROID X will be getting Froyo in the near future. The folks over a Droidforums.net have received an internal Verizon screenshot confirming that both devices will receive Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1 this summer. The DROID update is planned for late July and the DROID X update is scheduled for late August. As always, take these rumors with a grain or two of salt, and you should also remember how often the Android 2.1 DROID update was delayed.
After the Android 2.2 source code was released by Google today, I'm hopeful that this rumor turns out to be true. You DROID owners deserve the update after waiting so long for 2.1 (and I really want the official version of Froyo for my Nexus One). It's great to see Motorola and Verizon still supporting the original DROID this long after its release, too. With the device's wild popularity, though, the two companies would probably make more than a few customers upset if they didn't bring Froyo to the first DROID. So, do you think this rumor is going to come true or are DROID owners in for another delayed OS release?
Update: We've received official word that Android 2.2 (Froyo) will be coming to the DROID X and DROID in "late summer." We'll keep you updated as we hear more!
