If you're a BlackBerry user on AT&T, listen up. Tiered pricing could be the answer to your high cell phone bill woes. According to BGR, the folks over at Research in Motion (the makers of BlackBerry) are probably celebrating today as they have long been proponents of tiered data pricing. Why you ask? Because, RIM has a history of making wireless data efficiency a priority. According to RIM, "These new [AT&T] pricing plans will translate to savings for BlackBerry customers due to the industry-leading efficiency of the BlackBerry platform." BGR also quotes data found from Consumer Reports suggesting that - on average - BlackBerry users only use 54MB of data per month, well below the cap for the $15/200MB plan under AT&T's new structure.
Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of RIM was quoted as saying "AT&T’s strategic pricing move is great news for BlackBerry smartphone customers. We envision a day when all mobile phones are smartphones and we believe AT&T’s new service plans, together with RIM’s leading portfolio of BlackBerry products and services, will help attract a much broader range of consumers.” I know there are varying thoughts on this topic, and you are welcome to share them in the comments as usual. We will continue to bring you more coverage on AT&T's tiered pricing as the day goes on, so make sure to stay tuned!
