Dying to get your hands on the new iPhone (4G? HD?) that will almost certainly be released this summer? AT&T may be just as eager to get the device to you.
MobileCrunch is reporting that several AT&T customers have gotten their upgrade eligibility dates moved up to June of this year. Some users' dates have moved from November all the way back to June, which coincides nicely with the expected release date of the next-gen iPhone, as detailed by a MobileCrunch reader:
Not sure if anyone [..] has noticed this same thing, but my Upgrade Eligibility date on my AT&T account switched from 11/21 to 6/21 in the last day or so. I bought a 3GS on launch day last year, and my upgrade date read 11/21 since then. A few other folks in my office have noticed the same changes happening to their accounts as well.
We don't know if the June 21st date is the exact release date of the new iPhone or if everyone on AT&T will receive the new upgrade date, but it's clear that AT&T wants users to re-up their contracts and upgrade to the new iPhone, especially with all of the recent Verizon iPhone rumors heating up. As someone who bought his 3GS on launch day as well, it would be nice to have the opportunity to upgrade to the new iPhone when it is released. As someone who hates being tied into a contract, though, I'm not 100 percent sure that I would actually go through with it.
