With hopes of enticing new cell phone customers, Alltel Wireless will begin offering access to XM Satellite radio channels. For $7.99 a month, Alltel Wireless customers can listen to 20 different commercial-free XM music channels on their cellular device. The service will also display the name and song title of the artist they are listening directly on the screen of specific phone models.
Alltel Wireless currently has over 11 million customers and owns and operates the nation's largest wireless network. They are currently the fifth largest provider in the United States. XM Satellite Radio Inc. was incorporated in 1992 and is one of only two companies with a license for operating satellite services over the third broadcast medium behind AM and FM.
