Samsung announced the second generation of Gear smartwatches at MWC this year, just months after the original Galaxy Gear hit store shelves. The new Gear 2 features ditches Android for Tizen and includes user interface that's more responsive than the one found on the original Galaxy Gear. The Gear 2's build quality is also much improved thanks to its metal accents and very beautiful home button. 

The Gear 2 weighs very little and has almost the same dimensions in screen size and thickness as the Galaxy Gear, but Samsung has made the Gear 2's band less bulky and more watch-like, allowing it to better contour to the wearer's wrist. The Gear 2 also features a heart rate monitor that's located on the inside of the strap so that it makes contact with the user's wrist. It features the same functionality as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and its S Health app. It’s a nice party trick, but I can't really imagine where this technology will go next. 

Be sure to watch our hands-on video of the Gear 2! As you'll probably be able to tell in the video, I like the Gear 2 a lot more than the original Gear. That said, I'm not quite as fond of it as I am of Samsung's new Gear Fit and its curved AMOLED display.
