Welcome to 2018. I don’t know about you but when I say 2018, I genuinely feel like I’m living in the future. I remember watching a special on the Discovery Channel ten years ago that tried to predict what kind of technological and scientific advances that we’d have in the next ten, twenty years and so on. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the show but I just thought it was so fascinating at the time. Keep in mind, I was thirteen or fourteen years old.

Last year, we had plenty of breakthroughs. Tesla announced self-driving trucks. China unveiled face detecting systems that can authorize payments and provide access to various facilities just by scanning your face. And we have advances in gene therapy. Scientists have solved fundamental problems that were holding back years for hereditary disorders. This same approach that they used to find cures for hereditary disorders could be used to cure cancer, heart disease, and other common illnesses. We also now have these terrifying somersaulting robots.

The list of breakthroughs goes on and on. And what’s neat about working in the tech industry is that this industry is only getting bigger. The rate of change is inevitably going to slow down. But technology is only continuing to have a bigger role in people’s lives.

Here on the PhoneDog YouTube channel, our goal for 2018 is to continue to show you some of that technology. The smartphone that is almost required to function in today’s modern world is getting smarter and more capable than ever before. They’re so important that many devices now require your smartphone to function. The Amazon Echo, for example, can’t be setup without a smartphone or some other computing device.

Now in terms of smartphones, 2018 is going to bring us foldable smartphones, more curved displays, faster processors, and maybe even support for 5G networks here in the U.S. (depending on where you live). We look forward to covering the latest and greatest smartphones for all of you along with some cool gadgets here on YouTube.com/PhoneDog and PhoneDog.com in written form.

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2018, is right around the corner. I will be observing it from afar but Marco Hanna will be covering it. He might have a few videos for you at CES, hands-on coverage. I do have a fresh new video series in mind. I want to bring this channel back to its roots and re-incorporate the dog in our smartphone-related coverage. Essentially, it’ll be a monthly series where we unbox various tech products for all of you in one video. But in this case, the “we”will be my dog Arlo and myself.
