We’ve looked at the LG G Flex in quite a bit of detail so far, spending some hands-on time with the device at this year's Consumer Electronics Show and then unboxing it just a couple of days ago. It’s proven to be an interesting device thanks to its unique, curved body.
Today we want to give a new look at how flexible the G Flex really is. The phone should be able to withstand being completely flattened out, meaning that the battery, CPU and all of its internal gizmos must be able to flex. We also want to show off the G Flex's self-healing backside, which works in a manner similar to your car’s clear coat, mending itself with time and a good room temperature. Unlike a car that can take days or weeks to mend itself, though, the G Flex can rid itself of slight to moderate scratches within minutes.
Unlike its main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Round, the LG G Flex features a flexible body that curves from top to bottom. The entire phone can actually flex flat from its stationary curved position. Just because the G Flex's tentpole feature is its curved body doesn't mean that LG skimped on its other features, though. The G Flex sports a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 720p P-OLED display with colors that just have a certain pop.
The G Flex is a pretty large phone, measuring in at just under 6.3 inches tall with a 6-inch display that dominates the front of the unit. Around back is a button layout borrowed from the G2, with power and volume keys resting beneath the G Flex's 13-megapixe camera. Thankfully the G Flex also has the G2's KnockOn double-tap to wake feature, which gives users a way to wake their device from sleep when its resting on a flat surface.
On the software side of things, the LG G Flex comes preloaded with Android 4.2.2 and LG’s custom user interface. The UI certainly isn't the best manufacturer overlay around, but there are some features that call back to stock Android.
