The LG G Flex 2 was announced at the start of this month packed with next generation hardware but how does it compare to the LG G3, LG's flagship from last year? Find out in our comparison!
Two weeks ago, LG announced the LG G Flex 2 as the successor of its first generation, LG G Flex. Despite spending a decent amount of hands-on time with the phone, it is only fair to put it up next to its brother, the LG G3. Especially since these two share a number of commonalities shared between the two such as their form factor and design.
Specs
The LG G3 is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM, Adreno 330 GPU and a 3000 mAh battery inside its near bezel-less casing. It also has a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS display, which was and still is very beautiful.
On the other hand, the LG G Flex 2 comes with a 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM, (most likely) Adreno 430 GPU and a 3000 mAh battery inside its near bezel-less display. The screen size also measures 5.5 inches but instead of Quad HD display, the G Flex 2 comes with a 1080p panel. It also has a curve designed to fit the flex build of the device.
With the same design language, the commonalities do not just end on this aspect on the two devices.
Camera
The back of the two devices are the same—equipped with a 13MP camera, built-in OIS and laser autofocus. These two features debuted with the LG G3 back in summer 2014. On these two devices, the image quality and lightning fast autofocus continues to be impressive.
Software
When the LG G3 was first shipped, it came with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS and the biggest update to the LG custom user interface. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update, however, is still slowly making its rounds to different countries. The US is still on the waiting list.
Meanwhile, the LG G Flex 2 runs the latest version of Android 5.0 Lollipop with the next iteration of LG’s custom skin. Honestly, it didn’t appear too different from the G3. Except for its redesigned on-screen home buttons, the difference could not be determined. The feel of its software is identical to the LG G3.
The big question is: should I wait for the LG G Flex 2 to hit the market or go ahead and buy the readily available LG G3, knowing that the LG G4 is set for a release within four to five months?
Honestly, the LG G Flex 2 looks good for those who can appreciate the weird curved nature of the device as well as those who are attracted to Buick red.
The best advice is to wait and see the other devices LG will be coming out with in the coming months, especially since their LG G4 promises to be a big flagship for the year.
