It's Marco here, live at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. I have the Huawei Mate 8. this is the latest Huawei phone. I haven't actually looked at it yet. I'm going to go ahead and unbox it and get my first impressions.

So here is the box. Basically, it looks like any other Huawei phone. Kind of like the Mate S we saw at IFA. This basically is a simple black, nothing too special here. Let's go ahead and take a look at the Huawei Mate 8.

let's go ahead and lift up the top here of the Huawei Mate 8. and there we have it. It is a 6-inch phone. It's actually pretty massive. It actually has basically built on all glass and aluminum. It feels really solid on the hand at first touch. It kind of reminds me of the Nexus 6P without the little camera hump but let's set that aside and take a look at what else comes inside the box. Here it's got some manuals on the left side. It looks like we have a charger, some headphones and a USB cable on this box; kinda cool but you'll never ever take a look at these.

Let's take a look at the phone. Up front, we have a 6-inch 1080p IPS LCD panel. On the back we have a 16MP camera, a really fast fingerprint sensor; basically like the one we can find on the Nexus 6P. Inside of this thing, we have a Kirin 950 processor, 3 or 4 GB of RAM (depending on which model you get). It's a pretty fast phone, this is really flipping cool. The display is absolutely cool. It's still IPS but it looks super awesome. I think it has 95% saturation. It almost looks like an AMOLED, definitely it can make you think it's an AMOLED. And the really cool thing about this phone is it's running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is kind of crazy because you don't think of a Chinese-made manufacturer like Huawei making their own Marshmallow phone because the only Marshmallow phone is obviously the Nexus 6P.

So out of the box, obviously this is not running stock Android Marshmallow. It's actually running EMUI 4.0. it's kind of Huawei's own skin. One of my biggest pet peeves is no Android or app drawer on this thing. But obviously you can solve it with things like Nova to make it run a little bit more like stock Android. There's tons of features like Knuckle Sense 2.0 stuff. We'll get into that and a little bit more in detail in the full review of the Huawei Mate 8. but overall, it's a pretty fast phone. I think with Nova running, it will run a little bit faster than it is right now. But it's a super powerful processor and has a lot of RAM inside of this thing. And it does run Android Marshmallow so you get things like Android Doze and everything else. One awesome thing about this phone it it has a 4000mAh battery inside, which means it can pretty much last two days on one single charge and it has rapid charging which means you can charge this thing up in about half an hour to give you a day's worth of usage.

So let's go ahead and talk about the camera on the Mate 8. it has a 16MP camera. It's a next generation selfie sensor and the great thing about it is while you can take auto-focus and auto video and stuff, we actually have a full professional manual mode on the camera and it also works in video. That means you can take 4K UHD video all manually-- you can change the ISO, exposure, the shutter; everything you want to do on here. It's a flipping fantastic camera. I've taken a few photos of this thing and it looks cool.
