Beau HD gives us twelve reasons why the Apple iPhone 6 Plus is better than the Sony Xperia Z3. While each reason is a matter of opinion and will differ for each and every person, there are several features the iPhone 6 Plus has that the Xperia Z3 lacks. Some of the features of the iPhone 6 Plus include a unibody aluminum design, 8mp camera sensor with OIS and a sapphire crystal lens cover, bigger display for watching movies and browsing the web, and incredibly simplistic and intuitive iOS 8 software.
Instead of comparing two devices back to back, we’re going to highlight several features that make each device better than the other. We’ve given you 12 features why the Sony Xperia Z3 is better than the iPhone 6 Plus and so in this video, we’re going to give you 12 reasons why the iPhone 6 Plus is better than the Sony Xperia Z3, here on PhoneDog.
No device is perfect. Each phone has its perks and everyone has their own opinion of a device. In fact, a reason why device X is better than device Y may not be a very good reason for you while it’s a great reason for someone else. This is where you let me know what features you like the best about each device in a comment below.
With that said, I find the iPhone 6 Plus to be better in that it features a higher quality build construction. It features a unibody aluminum design with a very thin profile measuring in at just 7.1mm thick. It also has rounded edges that make it fit more comfortably in the hand. Is the Sony Xperia Z3 a poorly constructed device? No, but I find the aluminum build quality to feel more premium than the Gorilla Glass back cover.
The iPhone 6 Plus also features a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating that made a debut on the iPhone several generations ago. It doesn’t completely remove fingerprints from the iPhone 6 Plus glass front panel but it does a better job making them appear less noticeable than the Xperia Z3 since the Z3 doesn’t have this coating.
Now one major problem with the Z3 is its lack of availability. It’s only available on T-Mobile in the U.S., you can get the Xperia Z3v on Verizon but it is altered and doesn’t resemble the flagship Z3 Sony designed. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, is available on all four major carriers in the U.S. making it much easier to get your hands on. In addition, you can order the iPhone 6 Plus in more color configurations such as silver, gold, and space gray. The Xperia Z3 is only available in black with T-Mobile unfortunately.
The display on the iPhone 6 Plus is also significantly larger than the Z3 meaning it is better for consuming media like watching movies or YouTube videos and browsing the web. It’s a 5.5-inch 1080p display that is very color accurate, the Xperia Z3 also has a high quality beautiful display but it only has 5.2-inch, which may be plenty big for some people, but doesn’t offer quite the same experience when watching videos on the 5.5-inch display found on the iPhone 6 Plus.
But with two relatively big displays comes some reachability problems but the iPhone 6 Plus does a better job calibrating itself for one-handed usability through its software as you can double tap the home button to lower the screen down so you can effectively navigate the hard to reach places with one hand. The Sony Xperia Z3 doesn’t have any sort of feature like this unfortunately.
If we flip these two devices over we’ll find the 8MP camera sensor on the iPhone 6 Plus and the 20.7MP sensor on the Xperia Z3. Now there are two features that the iPhone 6 Plus camera sensor has over the Xperia Z3 camera sensor. The first is that the 6 Plus has a sapphire crystal lens cover to protect the camera sensor whereas the Xperia Z3 does not have this sort of protection. It’s rare that you’d break the lens cover on either device but it’s good to know that you’ll be more protected if you have an iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 Plus camera sensor also has OIS or optical image stabilization to take more crisp pictures especially if you have a shaky hand. The Xperia Z3 does not have OIS. It has digital image stabilization which does a decent job but it doesn’t do as good of a job as true OIS since it’s the hardware the really makes the difference.
The iPhone 6 Plus as you know runs iOS 8 which in itself is a reason that may make it a better buy than the Z3. It’s incredibly simple and easy to use. It’s remained aesthetically similar throughout the years and so it doesn’t have as much of a learning curve associated with it than the Z3 which runs Android but also runs Sony’s custom skin on top of Android that is going to look different than any other Android device.
iOS 8 also has a couple features that I found to be a valid reason to prefer it over the software on the Z3 that is running KitKat. For example, it has interactive notifications that allow you to reply to texts without having to open the app itself you can do this in the directly through the notification panel. You can also interact with events and emails as well.
And a feature that I personally haven’t found myself using too much but did find convenient was the landscape orientation of the home screen. It’s a subtle feature but when you’re watching a video in landscape mode and you press the home button, you can open other apps from the home screen in landscape mode without it automatically switching to portrait mode; which is what happens on the Xperia Z3.
And as much as I enjoy the responsiveness of the Xperia Z3, I enjoy the software experience on the iPhone 6 Plus more as it has a faster performance that allows me to navigate the over device quicker and smoother than on the Z3. As you can see here the 6+ has a better single and multi-core performance rating than the Z3.
