But now in this video, I’m going to give you 12 reasons why the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge is better than the LG G4 to help you guys make a more informed decision before you go out and buy either of these two devices. So without further ado, let’s go ahead and take a look at 12 reasons why the S6 edge is better than the LG G4 here on PhoneDog.

I usually like to start with the hardware with these sort of comparisons and I really liked the hardware of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge over the LG G4 mostly due to the higher build quality materials, metal and glass. When you hold both devices in the hand, the S6 edge feels like the more premium device. There’s metal around the entire frame of the device and the back has a Gorilla Glass 4 back cover while the LG G4 uses either plastic or leather. It does have a slight curve to it to fit the curve of your hand better. But once again, it doesn’t feel quite as premium, which is something I value slightly more since I rarely use cases on my devices.

I also like the addition of Qi wireless charging, which is built into the back built into the device. The LG G4 does have Qi wireless charging but it requires a Qi-enabled back cover so it doesn’t have wireless charging running out of the box unfortunately. It’s not a deal breaker but it is one reason that does make the S6 edge better than the G4 in my opinion.

It is also considerably thinner. It measures in at 7mm thick while the G4 measures in at 9.8mm thick at its thickest point. I would have much rather have Samsung add a bigger battery but the thin profile does impress me from a technological feat aspect. It is also less noticeable when carrying it around in my pocket or even in my hand for that matter. It’s just smaller overall than the LG G4.

Taking a look at the front of the S6 edge, we have a 5MP front-facing camera sensor and there is an 8MP front-facing camera sensor on the front of the LG G4. Both are able to satisfy my selfie addiction and the G4 does capture slightly higher quality images with the higher megapixel count. You can zoom in and still retain more quality. But in a lot of ways, I do find myself enjoying the S6 edge sensor more just because it has a wide angle lens, which makes capturing photos and video calls much easier since I don’t have to strain my arm as far away from my face. There are trade-offs but I do prefer the wide angle lens.

Below the front-facing camera sensors, we have the displays of course. The S6 edge features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 577ppi index, which is denser than the 5.5-inch IPS LCD display on the LG G4, which has a 538ppi index. It’s not terribly noticeable but technically it is going to give you a clearer image, which is debatable as to whether or not it is noticeable. I do notice more accurate black colors of the edge display, which makes sense since AMOLED displays don’t power black pixels. It’s also ever so slightly more saturated, making colors pop more so than the LG G4 and its impressive display. Some people might not like that but I think it does look a tiny bit better than the G4 display, which is more color accurate so it really depends upon you and what you prefer in a display. Personally, I like the extra saturated colors.

The edge is also faster than the G4. It features an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB of RAM and it’s one of the fastest mobile processors on the market. I can view information quicker on the edge, I can navigate the phone faster overall. I also do want to credit the optimization of TouchWiz, which has come a long way to the point where it’s just more useable than it ever was before. I actually prefer it over the LG G4 skin just slightly in terms of its performance and its optimization. But also quite a bit more so aesthetically, believe it or not. The G4 doesn’t look bad but it is a little bit inconsistent with its bubbly flat UI. It’s very similar to TouchWiz but just not quite as good looking.

The edge also has some built in themes into the operating system, which is kind of neat. I can completely change the look and feel of my device without ever rooting or installing a series of applications. I just go to the Theme Store and I can pick a theme that I like. And if it’s a dark theme, I can actually save some battery with the AMOLED display, something that I guess I really don’t need to do with the G4 does have better battery life overall. But the themes are nice to have regardless.

The edge also does have some specific features. There’s edge Lighting, People Edge, Information Stream, and Night Clock. These four main features are unique to the S6 edge and the S6 edge only. I would say People Edge is the most useful in my opinion but they do take advantage of the curved display more so than the LG G4, which really does not have any specific software features to take advantage of its curved display.

And the Galaxy S6 edge can do this. It has a fingerprint scanner, something that I really wish that the LG G4 had.
