In addition to announcing new Instagram features and launching the Oculus Go VR headset, Facebook today revealed some new features coming to its own apps.
Facebook has confirmed several new features coming to its main app. One example is dating, which will let you create a dating profile that's separate from your Facebook profile. Potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, things in common, and mutual friends, and you'll have the chance to discover other people with similar interests in Groups and Events. What you do with your dating profile will not be shared with your friends.
Facebook's dating feature will go into testing later in 2018.
Also coming soon is a Clear History feature that'll let you see all the websites and apps that send Facebook info when you use them. You can delete this info from your account if you'd like as well as turn off Facebook's ability to store it associated with your account. Facebook will build this feature over the coming months.
Other features coming to Facebook include the ability to share from apps to Facebook Stories, just like in Instagram; a Groups tab that'll help you to navigate to your Groups more easily; support for letting people affected by a crisis share their firsthand accounts through Crisis Response; and Blood Donations that'll let users in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan view nearby blood donation camps and requests for blood donations.
Facebook also announced today that it's redesigning its Messenger app to give it a cleaner, faster user interface. This refreshed version of Messenger is coming "very, very soon" and will also include a dark mode.
