The LG G7 ThinQ has been the subject of quite a few teasers and leaks in recent weeks, but today the new flagship Android phone got an official reveal.
The LG G7 ThinQ places a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) features. It's got an AI CAM feature that'll analyze the subjects in the frame and recommend the optimal shooting mode of the 19 that it's got available. There's also an AI feature that'll adjust camera settings in low light to help you get up to four times brigher photos.
Speaking of the camera, the LG G7 ThinQ has a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP standard angle camera with f/1.6 aperture and a 16MP wide angle camera with f/1.9 aperture. It's also got an 8MP wide angle camera around front with an f/1.9 aperture.
Also on the front of the phone is a 6.1-inch 3120x1440 display that LG says can reach a brightness fo 1,000 nits. LG has also included six different viewing modes: Auto, Cinema, Eco, Expert, Game, and Sports. And, yes, at the top of the display is a notch. LG calls it the "New Second Screen" and allows you to customize it by expanding it to minimize the bezels, highlight it by change the status bar to a different color, or hiding it by blacking out the status bar.
Inside the LG G7 ThinQ is an octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor paired with a microSD card slot, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, wireless charging, and a 3000mAh battery. The standard G7 ThinQ has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, while the G7+ gets bumped up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The entire body of the G7 ThinQ is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.
Another feature of note is that the LG G7 ThinQ is that it's got a dedicated Google Assistant button on its side. Press it once to launch Google Assistant from anywhere or press and hold to just begin talking to Google Assistant. You can also press the button twice to launch Google Lens, an app that will let you point your camera at objects like landmarks, plants, books, and more and get more information about it.
Finally, LG has placed a focus on audio performance with the G7 ThinQ. The new device has a Boombox Speaker that uses the internal space of the phone as a resonance chamber to offer double the bass of most smartphones. The G7 ThinQ also includes DTS:X technology for virtual 3D sound for all content and a Hi-Fi Quad DAC for use with high-end headphones.
The LG G7 ThinQ will launch in South Korea in the coming days, followed by releases in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. In the U.S., Sprint has said that it'll begin pre-orders on May 25 with a launch happening June 1, U.S. Cellular will launch on June 1, and T-Mobile has a release happening "later this spring". The LG G7 ThinQ will arrive with Android 8.0 Oreo in tow.
LG's G7 ThinQ looks like a nice evolution of the LG G6, offering an improved display with a slimmer bottom bezel and some upgraded specs. The notch may turn some people off, but LG does let you hide it with software, so you shouldn't be bothered by it too much if you are interested in the rest of the phone.
Now that it's official, what do you think of the LG G7 ThinQ?
