It was Sony’s turn to take the IFA 2016 stage today, and the company used that opportunity to introduce a new flagship and a mini version of that flagship.
The Sony Xperia XZ is now official, claiming the title of “flagship” for Sony’s Xperia X family. As with many Xperia flagships that came before it the Xperia XZ places a big focus on its camera capabilities.
There’s a 23-megapixel rear camera on the Xperia XZ, and Sony says that it’ll start up in 0.6 seconds when you touch the dedicated camera key on the side of the phone. The XZ uses what Sony calls “triple image sensing technology,” which utilizes the main image sensor with Predictive Hybrid AF to predict and track subjects for blur-free images, a Laser AF sensor for blur-free photos in low-light, and an RGBC-IR sensor that’ll adjust white balance.
There’s also a 13-megapixel camera on the front of the Xperia XZ with a 90-degree wide angle lens for all of your selfie needs.
The Xperia XZ offers a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 glass display on its face, a metal backside, and a rounded design to make it more comfortable to hold. The other specs that the XZ has to offer include a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB (single SIM) or 64GB (dual SIM) of storage, a microSD card slot, USB Type-C, a fingerprint reader, and a 2900mAh battery. All of those features are packed into a shell that’s IP68 water and dust resistant.
The Xperia XZ will launch globally in October with Android 6.0 in tow.
Sony today also introduced a mini version of the Xperia XZ, dubbed the Xperia X Compact. The X Compact offers the same 23-megapixel rear camera with triple image sensing tech as the XZ, but opts for a 5-megapixel camera on its face.
The Xperia X Compact also offers a 4.6-inch 1280x720 display, hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, a fingerprint reader, USB Type-C, and a 2700mAh battery.
Expect to see the Xperia X Compact launch globally in September with Android 6.0.
