Turns out that that announcement that Pebble was teasing yesterday is pretty huge.
Pebble today took the wraps off of three new devices: the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2, and Pebble Core. The Pebble 2 is a successor to the original Pebble smartwatch and is the new entry-level smartwatch in Pebble’s lineup. It’s got a black and white e-paper display, microphone, heart rate monitor, activity and sleep tacking, water resistance up to 30 meters, and a battery life that’ll last up to seven days.
Meanwhile, the Pebble Time 2 is the step-up smartwatch of the pair. Its display is 53 percent larger than the Pebble 2’s and also offers color e-paper tech. It offers the same activity features as the Pebble 2, including a heart rate monitor, but steps up the battery life to 10 days and offers a stainless steel body.
The Pebble Core is the totally new product that Pebble advertises as a runner’s companion. It includes GPS, 4GB of storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G connectivity that you can use to stream Spotify. Its battery is rated to last 5.5 hours, and Pebble will offer an optional wireless charging pad for the Core.
Pebble will also work with developers that want to tweak Core to do other things. The Pebble Core is basically a small Android 5.0 computer, and Pebble says that you can use it to do things like track your pet, control smart home accessories, call an Uber with one click, and more.
All three of the new Pebble devices are now on Kickstarter. Here’s the pricing and launch info:
