Ting used to be a CDMA-only operator running on Sprint’s network, but earlier this year it began offering GSM coverage and support, too. In order to make sure that everyone knows this, Ting today launched a new promotion.
Ting says that because it offers CDMA and GSM support, more than 80 percent of recent phones will work on its service, including most AT&T phones. To get those AT&T phone-toting customers to at least think about joining Ting, the company is giving away $5 Starbucks gift cards to people that share their device IMEI and phone number to see if their phone is compatible with Ting. Simply enter that info and your email address here, and Ting will send you a gift card between October 23 and October 26.
In order to check your IMEI, you can usually get it by entering *#06# in your device’s Phone app. Android users can also go into Settings > About Phone > Status, while iOS users can find it in Settings > General > About.
If you do decide to enter your information into Ting’s form, you’ll then be taken to a page that’ll break down what Ting coverage your phone can attach to. That includes both its GSM — 2G, 3G, 4G HSPA, and 4G LTE — as well as its CDMA — 2G, 3G, 4G — coverage. Also included will be links to buy a Ting SIM card if you decide to join Team Ting.
Five dollars is enough to get you a variety of goods at Starbucks, including coffee and food, so Ting’s new promo is worth a look if you’re an AT&T customer and you’re comfortable sharing your IMEI and phone number. This promo runs through 11:59 pm on October 22, so you’ve got a couple of days to take advantage of it.
