Google is about to make Maps even more awesome with an update that’ll make adding detours to your main route super-easy.
An update that’ll roll out to Google Maps for Android “over the next few weeks” will add a magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your display. Tapping the button will bring up options for gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee shops. You can then view nearby places in those categories, or search for more places, and then quickly add detours to your route.
Google also points out that you can use the gas station view to check out gas prices at the various stores on the map.
This looks like a pretty nifty update for Google Maps. Killing your current route in order to search for a gas station, coffee shop, or whatever else can be kind of a pain, but you won’t have to do that with this Maps update. Here’s to hoping that Google pushes the feature out to the iOS version of Google Maps soon.
