Heads up, Motorola device owners, because Moto is pushing updates to a pair of its custom Android apps that include some notable tweaks.
Motorola has updated its Camera and Gallery apps for Android with new features. The Camera app adds a QR/barcode viewfinder feature that allows the app to recognize and act on QR codes and barcodes, meaning that you don’t have to install a separate app just for that purpose. This feature is supported on the Moto X (2nd Gen.), Moto X Pro, DROID Turbo, Moto Maxx, and Moto Turbo on Android 5.1. This Camera update also includes bug fixes.
Meanwhile, the Gallery app is being updated to an Album Creation feature that lets you organize your photos and videos into albums. You can also move albums onto an SD card.
These are some nice updates, adding quality features to Motorola’s apps and showing why it’s good for a manufacturer to have its apps in Google Play. Older phones are getting a QR and barcode reader, while new phones with microSD cards — like the Moto X Play and Moto X Pure Edition — will be able to move photo albums using the Gallery app.
