Nearly one year ago, Nokia launcher a new Android app called Z Launcher that aimed to predict which apps you’d want throughout the day and surface them so you don’t have to go searching for them yourself. Now that the app is nearly one year old, Nokia is updating it with a major new feature.
Nokia Z Launcher has been updated to version 1.2 with widget support. Yes, the app will now let you add widgets to your Android device’s home screen, giving you glanceable information ranging from a weather forecast to music controls and content feeds. To add a widget, you just need to swipe left from Z Launcher’s ranked list of apps to access the widgets page, then long press on the widget you want to add and drag it into place. You can also resize and remove a widget once you’ve added it to a home screen.
In addition to widget support, the latest version of Z Launcher includes the ability to swipe right on the ranked app list to access an A to Z app list. Nokia’s also thrown unspecified performance improvements and bug fixes into the Z Launcher 1.2 update.
There are tons of different launcher options available to Android users, and so to try and help its Z Launcher to stand out, Nokia has focused on making the app reduce the length of time it takes for the user to find an app. It does this by learning what apps you use during certain times of the day, as well as a feature that lets you draw a letter on the screen with your finger to jump to apps that start with that letter. And now the launcher has improved with widget support, a major feature that is a huge part of the Android platform. Widgets have been on Android for a long time, and I’m sure a lot of Android users have gotten accustomed to them, so it’s nice to see widget support finally arrive on Z Launcher.
