It seems like Facebook is always testing out new user interfaces for its main app or launching totally new apps like Slingshot and Messenger. Now it looks like Zuckerberg and Co. have yet another new app in the works, and this is one that may replace one of your phone’s core features.
One Facebook for Android user recently spotted a reference to a new app that’s just called “Phone.” According to the description, the app will display info about who’s calling you — possibly tapping information from its users — and also blocking calls from numbers that are commonly blocked.
Unfortunately, tapping the “Install or Update” button only took the user to an error page. That’s not surprsing, though, since the “[FB-ONLY]” tag in the title of the app likely indicates that this app is only meant for use inside of Facebook.
Between Messenger, Slingshot, and the core Facebook app, the folks at the ‘Book are slowly trying to take charge of your communication from other apps. While people may not talk on the phone as much as they used to, the your phone app is still a pretty important part of your smartphone, and it’s not surprising to learn that Facebook is at least considering making its own Phone app to replace your phone’s default Phone app. Now we just have to wait and see if Facebook actually releases this to the public.
