Just as rumored, Apple today began selling SIM-free versions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the U.S.
The iPhone 6 is now available SIM-free with 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB of storage for $649, $749, and $849, respectively. Meanwhile, the SIM-free iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $749, $849, and $949 for the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models.
It’s worth pointing out that these SIM-free iPhones 6 are noteworthy for more than just their SIM-free-ness. They carry the model numbers A1586 and A1524 for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and they’ve got some different LTE support than the T-Mobile unlocked iPhones 6. The SIM-free models have wider support for African, Asian, and European LTE.
Many U.S. wireless consumers are unlikely to buy an unlocked and SIM-free smartphone because of the price, but for those that need a wide range of global LTE support, the SIM-free iPhones 6 are welcome additions to Apple’s lineup.
