LG has a history of showing off its new hardware ahead of major trade shows, and tonight it did just that again with the G Watch R.
The LG G Watch R is the new Android Wear smartwatch from the Life’s Good crew and, just as expected, it’s got a round face. The display is a 1.3-inch P-OLED screen with a resolution of 320x320. Meanwhile, the shell of the G Watch R is IP67 rated for dust and water resistance.
Inside of the LG G Watch R’s stainless steel frame lives a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM and a 410mAh battery. It’s also got a handful of sensors that includes a gyro, an accelerometer, a compass a barometer and a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor that can monitor the wearer’s heartbeat.
When it comes to actually wearing this thing on your wrist, the G Watch R comes with a 22mm calf asking leather strap. If leather’s not your thing, you can swap the strap out for something of your own choosing.
LG says that the G Watch R will launch in early Q4 2014. Pricing and precise release launch info will be released closer to its rollout.
The LG G Watch R looks like a nice piece of hardware that ought to be attractive to a lot of folks that want a smartwatch that doesn’t look like a smartwatch. It’s also nice to see another round Android Wear device coming to market, and it’ll be interesting to see how the LG G Watch R compares to Motorola’s Moto 360, especially since LG keeps taking shots at Moto by saying things like how the G Watch R “utilizes 100 percent of its watch face.”
