This morning we’re wrapping up this quarter’s coverage of the big four carriers’ earnings with T-Mobile’s Q2 2014 results.
Perhaps the biggest news of today’s Q2 2014 results is the fact that T-Mobile has rolled out its Voice over LTE coverage nationwide. T-Mobile VoLTE launched in Seattle a little over 2 months ago, but it now covers more than 200 million people. T-Mo also says that its now got 2.8 million VoLTE-capable devices on its network and that customers have made more than 52 million VoLTE calls since the service’s launch.
T-Mobile also reports that its got 10+10MHz LTE coverage in 43 of the top 50 U.S. markets. Meanwhile, its got 15+15MHz Wideband LTE in 17 metro areas, with another 9 slated to be added by the end of 2014. Finally, T-Mobile’s plain ol’ LTE network now covers more than 233 million people in 325 metro areas.
In other T-Mobile network news, the big magenta carrier says that it’s starting to equip its cell sites with 700MHz gear to support the spectrum that it acquired from Verizon earlier this year. T-Mo is also currently testing out its first batch of 700MHz-capable devices.
Moving on to the Q2 2014 results, T-Mobile added 1.5 million total customers, making this its fifth straight quarter with more than 1 million adds. Of that total, T-Mo added 908,000 postpaid users and 102,000 subs.
Finally, T-Mobile’s total revenues for the quarter finished at $7.2 billion, up from $6.9 billion in Q1 2014. T-Mobile also reports that it sold 6.2 million smartphones in Q2 2014, up from 6.9 million in Q1 2014 and 4.3 million in Q2 2013.
