Motorola has been sharing update news on an official software upgrade schedule page for a while now, laying out all of the information in a simple table with device names and estimated release windows. Moto apparently decided recently that that was a bit too basic, though, as it's now given the upgrade news page a makeover. Now users that navigate to the page are presented with a drop-down menu with the names of several carriers that offer Motorola devices. After selecting an operator, the user then is instructed to choose their hardware from a list, complete with images. Motorola says that if a user doesn't see his or her device and it's running anything from Android 1.5 through Android 2.3, it won't be receiving any more updates.
The refreshed layout makes it a bit more difficult to track all of the changes that Motorola makes to its schedule, but it is worth noting that the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX have had their statuses updated recently. Motorola now says that it expects to begin rolling out an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to both devices in Q1 2013. That echoes a statement given by Motorola on its Facebook page last month, which was issued after it and Verizon accidentally began the DROID RAZR/RAZR MAXX Jelly Bean update rollout and then quickly stopped it in late December 2012.
Motorola's software upgrade news page is a nice way for owners of Moto hardware to check if they're running the latest software available for their device and when another update is slated to begin rolling out. While it may not always offer as much information as users may want, it's good to see that Motorola is being fairly open about its update plans and giving its users an idea of when they'll see some new software. It sounds like the next major update that Motorola has up its sleeve is the Jelly Bean bump for the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX, which will be here sometime in the next month or so if Moto sticks to its schedule. Here's to hoping that it does.
