The camera on the Nokia Lumia 920 is one of the handset's most heavily-touted features, with Nokia talking up the PureView shooter's optical image stabilization and Carl Zeiss lens. However, some users have found that the daylight images produced by the 920's camera can turn out to be somewhat soft and fuzzy. The good news is that Engadget claims that Nokia will be addressing this issue in an upcoming PR1.1 update. The site has gotten hold of a set of images that compare photos taken with a current PR1.0 Lumia 920 and an updated PR1.1 model, and the new images do indeed look sharper.
Along with camera tweaks, the PR1.1 update is said to include improvements to LTE, web browsing and overall stability, as well as features like the ability to decline a call and respond with SMS, just like we recently saw in the Windows Phone 8X's "Portico" update. Nokia's U.S. support team recently revealed on Twitter that an update will be released this month, and while no other details were given, Engadget claims to have been told that the update is indeed the PR1.1 software.
While we'll have to reserve final judgment on this new update until it actually begins rolling out to the public, the images taken with the PR1.1 update do look much improved over the PR1.0 shots. It's not clear exactly when this month that customers will be able to test out the camera tweaks and other enhancements found in the PR1.1 update, but considering that today is December 17, that means that Lumia 920 folk only have a maximum of two weeks of waiting ahead of them so long as the update is still planned for December.
