Outside of some product renders, details on Nokia's upcoming Windows Phone devices have been pretty light. Today Nokia revealed a little bit more about the its Windows Phone plans alongside Microsoft's big Mango event, announcing that the software that was on show at today's gathering will be used on Nokia's first Windows Phone device. Nokia wouldn't say when that device will actually be launching, but hey, they don't want to give up too much info at once, you know? The good news is that Microsoft said during its Mango keynote today that its got some Nokia-branded devices in its testing labs right now, meaning that we're still on track to see one of Nokia's Windows Phone devices launch this year.
This whole Nokia-Microsoft partnership still seems a bit strange even though it's been official for several months, but it has the potential to be great for both companies. The pairing gives Microsoft a huge addition to its stable of Windows Phone manufacturers and will allow Nokia to reinvent itself and put what some feel is a more modern mobile operating system on its hardware. Exactly how beneficial the alliance will be remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: it's going to be pretty interesting seeing a Nokia device come to market that's running Microsoft's software.
