AT&T released an iPhone app titled "Mark the Spot" last year, allowing users to send the carrier a notification of where coverage was less than ideal. AT&T is now following up on those alerts, sending users a message about the increased network capacity. Users are reporting receiving a text message from AT&T containing information like when and where their report was filed, followed by the news that "increased network capacity" is planned where the feedback was submitted within the next 60-90 days.
It's great to see AT&T actually responding to issues that its customers are having, although the impending release of the iPhone 4 probably helped to spur the increased capacity, as well. I suppose if you don't feel like shelling out $150 for a Microcell and have the data usage count toward your plan, you could send AT&T with Mark the Spot feedback messages and hope they'll increase coverage near you, too. I've heard users all over the country say that their AT&T coverage is actually getting better, so maybe AT&T and Steve Jobs were right when they claimed that coverage would be improving this summer. As always with wireless carriers, though, things can change wildly depending on where you are. Have you used the Mark the Spot app and received a notification like the one above?
