The coronavirus, aka COVID-19, has already had a major effect on the mobile industry with the cancellation of MWC 2020, and now it looks like the virus is affecting some manufacturer's software release schedule, too.

HMD Global has released a revised Android 10 update schedule for its Nokia phones. While all of the devices that were originally scheduled to get Android 10 will still get their update, a handful of phones have had their update releases pushed back.

For example, the Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 3.2, and Nokia 4.2 were originally slated to get Android 10 in the early part of Q1 2020, but those updates have been delayed slightly. The Nokia 5.1 Plus was previously expected to get Android 10 in Q1 2020, but that update has been pushed back to Q2 2020.

"While we have taken all the steps to fight COVID-19, we still aim to be the fastest brand to update its portfolio to Android 10," explained Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global's Chief Product Officer. "Although our schedule changed a bit, we’re proud to announce a number of phones will be upgraded soon and excited to share our new roadmap."

HMD Global has been one of the better Android device makers around when it comes to updating their phones, and it's nice to see the company be transparent about this revised update schedule with its customers. While it's a bummer that some of these phones' Android 10 updates have been pushed back, the delays aren't that big, and it's also understandable given how the coronavirus is affecting so many other companies around the world.
