New TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch has fitness-tracking focus, $1,800 starting price

TAG Heuer entered the smartwatch market in 2015 with the Connected, its first luxury wearable. Now the company is back with its third iteration of the Connected smarwatch.

The new TAG Heuer Connected features a rotating crown and two push buttons on the side of its case: the crown can be used for navigation while the top button launches the Sports app and the lower button will get you to the stopwatch. The case of the Connected watch is available in stainless steel or titanium options.

The display of the newest TAG Heuer Connected is a round 1.39-inch 454x454 OLED panel that's covered with sapphire glass to protect against scratches. It's got a diameter of 45mm and a thickness of 13.5mm.

Inside that case, which offers 5ATM water resistance, there's a Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor and a 430mAh "all-day" battery. TAG Heuer has also included a heart rate sensor, NFC, compass, accelerometer, and gyroscope.

While the TAG Heuer Connected may be a luxury smartwatch, that doesn't mean it can't be your workout partner, too. The new Sports app can track activities like golf, running, cycling, and walking, with more being added soon. You'll get detailed info like speed, pace, distance, and heart rate, and you can sync your fitness data with Apple Health and Strava.

Wearers can choose between five always-on mechanical- or digital-inspired watch faces made by TAG Heuer. There faces can be customized with different dial options and colors and can also show features like activity progress, notifications, weather, and more.

And because it runs Wear OS, the TAG Heuer Connected includes features like Google Assistant, Google Translate, Google Pay, and access to more apps through Google Play.

The third generation TAG Heuer Connected is available today at a starting price of $1,800. That's not exactly cheap, but TAG Heuer is a luxury watch maker, and the Connected could convince some folks who are familiar with traditional luxury watch brands to give a smartwatch a try. Having more options is always a good thing, and the TAG Heuer Connected gives us just that.
