Sling TV raises prices, adds more channels and free Cloud DVR

Sling TV is getting a bit pricier today, but it's also adding some new channels and features to help make that price increase easier to swallow.

First up, Sling TV is increasing the price of all three of its services. Both Sling Orange and Sling Blue are now $30 each per month (up from $25/month) while the Orange + Blue package is now $45 per month (up from $40/month).

Also of note is that the Sports Extra add-on is now $15 per month when you add it to the Orange + Blue package, but it remains at $10 per month if you're just adding it to Orange or Blue. Sling also says that the 4 Extras Deal is now $12 per month and the Total TV Deal is now $25 per month with the Orange + Blue package, but remains at $20 per month when added to just Orange or Blue.

Sling says that new customers will see these increases prices starting today while existing customers will see the changes on their next bill after January 22nd. As for why the prices are going up, Sling explains, "Sling doesn’t own the networks you watch — we have to pay programmers for their channels so that we can provide them to you, and the price of programming has been going up. Unfortunately, we have to share those rising prices with you, so we can continue to provide you with the same great experience you’ve come to expect from Sling."

Now for the good news. Sling is adding Fox News, MSNBC, and HLN to the base Sling Blue service, and Fox Business Network is begin added to Sling Blue News Extra. Nat Geo Wild is being added to Sling Blue Heartland Extra and both FXM and FXX are being added to the Sling Blue Hollywood Extra package.

Sling also says that it's adding Big Ten Network ahead of the 2020-21 college football season. Sling Orange's Sports Extra recently picked up the Longhorn Network and ACC Network, too.

Finally, Sling is beefing up its Cloud DVR service. All customers now get 10 hours of Cloud DVR for no added cost, complete with support for recording Disney and ESPN shows. If you want more storage, you can upgrade to Cloud DVR Plus for $5 per month and get 50 hours of storage.
