We've seen a lot of Pixel 4 leaks lately, including lots of good looks at the hardware and design of Google's new phone. Now another leak is here to give us another early preview of the Pixel 4, and this one shows off some of the new features coming with the device.
Active Edge is a feature we've seen on past Pixel phones, letting you squeeze the sides of the device to activate Google Assistant. A report from Nextrift shows that Active Edge is available in the Pixel 4 XL, too. Google added a gesture to Android 10 that lets you active the Assistant with a swipe up from one of the bottom corners of the screen, but it's nice to have another shortcut to call up the Google Assistant.
Speaking of Google Assistant, today's report says that the Assistant on the Pixel 4 XL is very fast. That's thanks at least in part to Google's decision to run Assistant on the device. We can also see Google's updated design for the Assistant, which looks pretty nice. You can see it at the top of this post.
A new feature of the Pixel 4 XL is Face Unlock, which previous leaks have shown includes a setup similar to Apple's Face ID. Today we're learning more about Google's implementation of Face Unlock, which includes a warning that your phone could unlock when you don't intend for it to, like if someone holds up your phone to your face. Google also says that your phone could be unlocked by someone who looks a lot like you, such as an identical sibling.
Also included with the Pixel 4 XL is Ambient EQ. This feature will adjust the white balance of your display to match the lighting around you, and today's report confirms that the display will get warmer or cooler based on the surrounding light levels.
Getting back to the hardware, there are a couple photos coming out today that compare the size of the Pixel 4 XL with the Pixel 3a XL and Samsung Galaxy S10+. The Pixel 4 XL appears to be around the same size as the Pixel 3a
Finally, today's report includes a comparison of the Pixel 4 XL's 8.1MP selfie camera with the Galaxy S10+. Below you can see the Pixel 4 XL on image on the left and the Galaxy S10+ photo on the right.
Google is hosting an event on October 15, and the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will be officially revealed there. It's also expected that Google will have some other devices to show at the event, including a new Nest Mini smart speaker and a Pixelbook Go laptop.
