Google may be working on a new program to reward you for buying content through its Play Store.
A new program called Google Play Points may be in the works. Details on the program were discovered inside versions 11.5 and 11.6 of Google's Play Store app, with 9to5Google finding references to the unannounced program inside those APKs. An icon for the program was found, too, showing a tilted square with the four Google Play colors.
Some examples of the references found in these APKs include:
Other code strings hint at five different Levels, each with its own benefits. However, it's unclear what these levels or benefits might be.
Play Points could be an interesting program from Google. While most folks only buy Android apps from the Play Store, there are lots of other places that you can get music, movies, TV shows, and books. Play Points could be a way for Google to incentivize users to buy that content from the Play Store rather than competing digital storefronts.
Would a program like Play Points get you to buy more from the Play Store?
