The Snapdragon 888 is now official as Qualcomm's newest flagship mobile processor.

This new Snapdragon 888 chipset includes a Snapdragon X60 5G modem. That integrated X60 modem supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G bands for global compatibility and also offers features like 5G carrier aggregation, global multi-SIM, standalone and non-standalone, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing.

Also packed into the Snapdragon 888 is a new 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with a new Hexagon chip for improved performance and power efficiency in AI tasks. There's 3rd generation Snapdragon Elite Gaming tech crammed into the Snapdragon 888, too, which Qualcomm touts will result in its "most significant upgrade" in GPU performance.

Lastly, a faster gigapixel speed Qualcomm Spectra ISP is included in the Snapdragon 888 that can capture photos and videos at 2.7 gigapixels per second, or around 120 photos at 12MP resolution. That's 35% faster than the previous generation chip.

Qualcomm isn't saying a ton about its new chip yet — more details will likely come tomorrow as part of the Snapdragon Tech Summit — but this reveal is giving us a preview of what we can expect to see from a bunch of Android flagships next year. The Snapdragon 888 will be included with many new Android devices in 2021, and Qualcomm says that the 888 will be supported by companies like ASUS, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, Oppo, Sharp, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
