We're still waiting for Microsoft to bring xCloud to iPhone and iPad, but until we do, Xbox owners on iOS are getting a nice consolation gift.
Microsoft announced today that it's updated the Xbox app for iOS to add remote play support. With it, you can stream games from your Xbox console to your iPhone or iPad over an internet connection.
Remote play will let you play games installed on your Xbox One console, including Xbox Game Pass games, and the Xbox Series X and Series S are supported too if you plan on buying one of Microsoft's next-gen consoles. However, backward compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games are not currently supported.
We know that Microsoft is working to bring xCloud gaming to iPhone and iPad, letting you stream games over the cloud rather than only having access to the games installed on your home console. Until that happens, this remote play feature is nice to have, especially since there are already similar remote play options for PS4 and Steam on iOS.
If you've got an Xbox and an iPhone or iPad, you can download the Xbox app from the App Store and give remote play a try now.
