Google launched Gmail Go years ago as a slimmed down version of Gmail for Android (Go edition) devices with entry-level specs. Fast-forward to today, though, and almost anyone can give the app a try.
Gmail Go is now available to any Android device, even non-Android (Go edition) devices (via 9to5Google). Folks on Reddit say that you need Android 10 or higher to install the app, but if you do, you should be able to just get it from the Play Store here.

Because the app targets Android (Go edition) devices, Gmail Go should use up fewer resources on your device. And it looks largely identical to the main Gmail app, though it does ditch the Meet tab found at the bottom of the Gmail app and its doesn't use any layering to make the app more lightweight.
One thing you may notice when using Gmail Go on a non-Android (Go edition) device is that the frame rate is capped. This can make it look laggy when you're scrolling and is probably part of Google's optimization to make Gmail Go work on devices with lower-end specs.
It is good to see Google enabling more people to try out the slimmed down Gmail Go app, but this frame rate cap might make it difficult for folks with high-end Android devices to use Gmail Go over the standard Gmail app. If you do decide to give Gmail Go a shot, let us know how it performs for you!
