Today Google is launching a new Nest Thermostat that is its most affordable smart thermostat yet.
The new Nest Thermostat is now available for pre-order for $129.99. That makes it $120 cheaper than the flagship Nest Thermostat model and $40 less than the Nest Thermostat E. Google is also selling a $14.99 trim plate that matches the color of your Nest Thermostat and can help give it a cleaner look on your wall.
The Nest Thermostat itself has a diameter of 3.3 inches and its got a 2.4-inch LCD screen with a mirrored glass lens. You can control the thermostat by swiping and tapping on its side to manually adjust the temperature or you can use your voice with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa as well as the Google Home app on your phone.
That Google Home app will also let you use Quick Schedule to set a custom temperature at different times and on different days. Savings Finder can proactively suggest tweaks to your schedule that could help you save energy, like changing the temperature while you're asleep.
Google has also packed this new Nest Thermostat with the same Soli technology found in the Pixel 4. On this thermostat, it's used to detect motion and can automatically set the Nest Thermostat to an Eco temperature to help reduce energy waste when you're not at home.
Finally, the Nest Thermostat features HVAC monitoring, which lets the device watch for potential issues with your HVAC system and alert you to problems like an air filter that might need to be replaced. If it's a more serious problem, you can schedule a visit from a qualified technician through Google's partnership with Handy.
