Mobile World Congress is one of the biggest annual mobile conferences, but this year it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Today we're getting news on what's going to happen with MWC 2021.
The GSMA, the group that puts on Mobile World Congress, has announced that MWC 2021 is being moved to June 28 through July 1, 2021. The event was originally supposed to take place in early March, but it's been changed due to the "global circumstance surrounding COVID-19."
"The GSMA is committed and investing so that MWC21 Barcelona can go ahead safely and offer the unique, unmissable experience that has made it the world’s most important mobile ecosystem convening platform," the GSMA explained. "MWC21 Barcelona will also have virtual elements to complement the overwhelming demand to convene physically."
Mobile World Congress is an international event, bringing together many mobile companies big and small to make announcements. With MWC 2021, it's smart of the GSMA to move the event back now. March is not that far off for companies making plans for 2021 with regard to events and products, and shifting the date for 2021 gives them more time to wait and see what happens with the pandemic over the coming months and decide if they're going to attend MWC 2021.
