OnePlus hints always-on display coming with its Android 11 update

OnePlus confirmed earlier this year that it plans to add an always-on display feature to its phones, and now we've got a bit more info on when it'll arrive.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has posted a teaser image to Twitter that says "11 'on display.'" The tweet also includes an image of a gray clock, sort of like you might see on an always-on display.

The tweet suggests that OnePlus will add an always-on display feature to OxygenOS with the update to Android 11. It's not clear when that update will launch, but OnePlus is offering an Android 11 Beta to the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, so the company is already working on the update. Android 11 is slated to launch on September 8, so OnePlus's update may come to at least some devices shortly after.

An always-on display is a handy feature that'll show you info like the time, date, and notifications without you having to turn on your display. This could use a bit more battery life, but then you're also not taking the time and battery life to fully wake up your screen several times throughout the day.

Does your phone have an always-on display feature? If so, do you use it?
