Qualcomm's Quick Charge fast charging solution has broken a new milestone.
Quick Charge 5 is official, offering charging speeds of 100W+. With those speeds, you can go from 0% to 50% in just 5 minutes. Going from completely empty to a 100% charge will take just 15 minutes.
This new fast charging tech is 70% more efficient and up to 4 times faster than Quick Charge 4 while also being up to 10 degrees Celsius cooler. Qualcomm also touts that Quick Charge 5 is 10 times more powerful than the original Quick Charge solution.
Quick Charge 5 also supports 2S batteries and 20 Volts of power delivery.
Of course, with those super fast charging speeds, you're also going to want some safety features to protect your device. Quick Charge 5 includes 12 separate voltage, current, and temperature protections, including USB-input overvoltage protection at 25V and external power controls beyond 30V.
Another new safety feature of Quick Charge 5 is Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities. This tech will measure the behavior of your connected charger to determine its true voltage, current, and thermal limitations rather than just trusting the charger to be completely honest about its capabilities.
Quick Charge 5 is backward compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4, and 4+ and it also works with USB-PD and Type-C charging technologies.
Quick Charge 5 is supported on the Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus processors and will be available with "future premium- and high-tier Snapdragon mobile platforms". This new fast charging tech is expected to begin appearing in devices in Q3 2020.
