Following its initial announcement 6 months ago, NBC's Peacock streaming service is now live.
Peacock offers a free tier and a premium tier. The free tier includes more than 13,000 hours of ad-supported content, including popular shows like 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and Saturday Night Live; and movies like the Jason Bourne series, Jurassic Park, and The Matrix series. The free tier will also show new episodes of current NBC series one week after they air plus sample episodes of Peacock Originals.
Upgrading to Peacock Premium will get you more than 20,000 hours of content. This includes everything in the free tier plus the full catalog of Peacock Originals shows, next-day access to new episodes of current NBC shows, and live and on-demand sports that include more than 175 Premier League matches and the Tour de France.
NBC says that popular shows like The Office, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Roseanne are coming soon to Peacock, too.
Peacock is available on a variety of devices. That includes devices on Android 6.0 or higher and iOS 11.0 or higher, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox One, select LG and Vizio smart TVs, and Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari browsers. NBC says Peacock will be available on the PlayStation 4 starting the week of July 20.
When it comes to pricing, you've got a few options available. There's a free tier that doesn't require a credit card, just your email address and a password. Peacock Premium is available for $4.99 per month.
There's also Peacock Premium Plus that includes everything in Premium but with almost no ads. "Due to streaming rights, a small amount of programming will stil contain ads (Peacock channels, events, and a few shows or movies)," NBC says of Peacock Premium Plus.
Peacock also offers annual plans for its paid service tiers. You can get one year of Peacock Premium for $49.99 or one year of Peacock Premium Plus for $99.99, offering you some savings compared to the monthly plans if you're willing to commit to a full year of service.
There are free 7-day trials of Peacock Premium and Premium Plus so that you can try the paid services before you plunk down your hard-earned cash.
Finally, Comcast customers with Xfinity X1 or Flex service as well as Cox Contour customers can get Peacock Premium for no additional cost.
